I was born in the great state of Texas, and grew up in the Dallas Metro area. I went to college at the University of Colorado Boulder, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications. I have a dachshund puppy who is my best friend. His name is Ody and he is a Dapple Dachshund (they are rare). As for hobbies I am an avid golfer (hence the widgets below), who if not teaching can be found on the golf course. Along with golf, I also like hiking, rafting and camping. I love Colorado because I can golf, hike, and camp all in the same day. I do not ski or snowboard, so I am kind of a rare resident, but remember I’m from Texas where there is no skiing. Other interests I have are the Cowboys (football), the Rangers (baseball), and the Mavericks (basketball)…………all Dallas based sports teams.
For the past 7 years I have worked as an account manager for a Fortune 100 company, and now I have become burned out with the corporate world. I want to do something more with myself and felt I have more to give to society. After doing some soul searching it became clear I love education. I love learning and teaching. The entire process intrigues me, and so I decided to go back to college and get a teacher licensure. I have always loved education and believe we as humans never stop learning new information, which is the basis for my philosophy of teaching. I feel if I can help students understand they never stop learning and they need to embrace with respect the learning process, then I have successfully educated my students. I am a strong believer in group work and education outside the classroom. I often will relate current events to the subject we are studying, to help kids become aware of their society. I think often children feel what they are learning is irrelevant to their world, and I try to use current events to help draw a connection to the importance of the subject. Along with this my classrooms are very discussion based. I want kids to engage one another in discussions to help extend their learning. By having discussions in class frequently, students will become more engaged in topics and will become more comfortable with expressing their thoughts. Between group work and class discussions I believe a positive, creative, engaging learning environment is being fostered.
WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE ME
Dedication. This is why you should hire me. I am dedicated to my students, my faculty, and my development. I want to be a part of the mental development and education of society. I am committed to improving as a teacher, and feel it is my responsibility to my students to do such. Whether it be attending conferences, workshops, or seminars I will constantly continue to look for increased training in the profession. I have a sense of duty as a teacher and vow to not neglect this duty. I know a teacher in the elementary level can make a huge difference on the future of a child, and I plan to make a difference positively in every child I teach. I am passionate about being the best teacher I can. I know I will never be a perfect teacher and the profession will always be changing, however I am confident I can adapt to the changes. I have never quit anything in my life, and this will be no different in my teaching. So, you should hire me because of my dedication and respect of the profession.
